WRITERS OF THE BIBLE ENDORSED OTHER PROPHETS AND APOSTLES
Hi, I’m Jeffrey G. Part of the premise of Caring Survival Preparedness is that Jesus Christ will be there to help believers through the disasters of life, however they may come. Jesus promised that we would not escape troubles, but He gave us hope that He would give us peace to deal with them when they arrive at our doorstep (John 16:33). My hope is that you also will believe in Jesus to get you through the tough times in life. But you must first believe the Bible in order to believe in Jesus Christ. I personally researched every verse I’ll be presenting, organized, and wrote “Why Do People Believe The Bible.” Please read through the different posts on this subject so that you can gain the confidence needed of how the Bible is true, or gain a stronger assurance in what you have already believed.
The Bible’s authors many times quoted other prophets or apostles, acknowledging their part in transcribing the authoritative Word of God. The writings of scripture were preserved for centuries, adding on to one another and giving proof to the authenticity of books previously written and set aside. That’s because the Bible (in the original manuscripts) is simply a book authored by God, using many mouthpieces and transcribers, taking about two thousand years to complete. That’s who wrote the Bible in a nutshell. Any contradictions that people have claimed are only misperceptions, because God–the true Revelator of all Scripture–cannot contradict Himself.
Joshua supported Moses by rewriting a copy of the Law, reading it, and emphasizing to Israel the importance of obeying it.
Now Joshua built an altar to the Lord God of Israel in Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the children of Israel, …And there, in the presence of the children of Israel, he wrote on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written. Then all Israel, with their elders and officers and judges, stood on either side of the ark before the priests, the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, …And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and the cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the strangers who were living among them. – Joshua 8:30-35, NKJV
Hundreds of years later, King David also reaffirmed the writings of Moses to his son Solomon as he neared death. He told him to “keep the charge of the LORD thy God …as it is written in the law of Moses” (I Kings 2:1-3, KJV). He wasn’t just recommending some good reading material. He told Solomon that he will prosper in all that he does if he obeys it as the very words of God.
Jumping into the New Testament, the apostle Paul endorsed three of Moses’ Books in the following three references:
For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” – Romans 4:3, NKJV (confirming Genesis 15:6)
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” – Romans 9:17, NKJV (confirming Exodus 9:16)
For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.” – I Timothy 5:18, NKJV (confirming Deuteronomy 25:4)
A few days after Jesus ascended to heaven, Peter was speaking to a group of about 120 disciples about replacing Judas, who had betrayed Jesus just a few weeks ago. Peter confirmed the truth of a prophecy which King David the psalmist had made centuries before. He said, “Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry. …For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it’; and, ‘Let another take his office’” (Acts 1:15-17,19,20, NKJV, confirming Psalms 69:25 & 109:8).
As Luke recorded the events of John the Baptist going around Israel calling people to repentance and baptizing them, he affirmed the fulfillment of a prophecy of Isaiah:
As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’” – Luke 3:4, NKJV (confirming Isaiah 40:3)
Lastly, the apostle Peter endorsed Paul as a valid scribe of God’s word, advising people not to be swayed by those who twist the meaning of scripture, but to grow in a true understanding of Jesus Christ:
And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. – II Peter 3:15-18, NKJV
This segment is another reason to answer the question, “Why do people believe the Bible?” The bottom line is this. The prophets and apostles who wrote the Bible acknowledged each other’s writings as the word of God, whether the other writer lived in their own generation or lived centuries before their time. They are all tied together from the same divine Author–God, who wrote the Bible with a little help from His friends.
